It isn’t always easy to have a romantic Valentine’s Day when the kids are around but there are things you can do once they have gone to bed and your family Valentine’s Day is over. Then it’s time to remember that before you were parents you were a couple, and it’s good to remember that and celebrate it too.
If you have had a Valentine’s Day Dinner, there is no reason why you can’t have an extra special dessert just for the two of you once the children have gone to bed. How about a chocolate fondue with some big juicy Strawberries that are delicious when you dip them into melted chocolate. Some tiny little meringues or heart shaped marshmallows could just finish it off with a touch of sweetness. A lovely glass of sweet dessert wine would go well with them too, unless you are already full of champagne!
With a little preparation you can set the room up so that when the children have gone to bed you can light some candles, have your favorite music ready to play, or a movie that you both love to watch. Make sure the room is warm and cozy, and you can snuggle up and pretend you are back in the days when romance was new and exciting and you had more time for each other. It’s a good idea to turn the phones off as well, so you can have some quality time together. It’s all too easy to forget that we are part of a loving relationship once the children come along. Even if you don’t have children sometimes we get just too busy to remember the small things, like how much fun it is just to spend some snuggle time together.
Once the mood is set and the music is playing, why not have a slow dance together, you don’t need to be on a dance floor or at a party to dance. Music is good for the spirit and dancing is a pleasure that goes back way before Valentine’s Day came along. Soft lights, sweet music and the person you love most in your arms – what could be better?
